SUMMARY:Nashua re-CODE with Sam Durfee
DESCRIPTION:During this meeting\, we will have Sam Durfee\, Nashua’s Planning Manager up to talk about Nashua re-CODE. If you haven’t heard\, Nashua re-CODE is as described on their website: \nNashua re-CODE is a pivotal initiative that is set to transform the future of our City. \nBuilding upon the vision outlined in Imagine Nashua\, and guided by a commitment to a diverse and forward-thinking community\, the City is embarking on a journey to redefine its zoning ordinances and land use policies. \nThe long story short is Nashua is reconsidering its zoning for large portions of Nashua. It is an exceptional opportunity to work towards updating Nashua to become more mixed use. \nSam will take some time to discuss opportunities to take an active role participating in the new zoning plan. There will be plenty of time to ask questions. \nWe hope you all will be able to make it to hear about how Nashua is considering reshaping its zoning! \nAdditionally we will take some time to discuss how we can continue to stay actively involved in pushing for Complete Streets\, as it is strongly complementary to the new zoning discussion. \nNote: This meeting will be taking place on a Wednesday this time and in the Public Library\, not the Maker Space.

SUMMARY:Complete Streets policy review
DESCRIPTION:Welcome back folks\, we’ve been crafting our Complete Streets Policy and have returned. During this meeting we will be reviewing our semi-finalized Complete Streets policy.  \nWe will spend some time going over an abbreviated version of the policy to ensure the most critical points are conveyed and request comment. Our goal is to iron out the policy to ensure it is ready for prime time. We would like to be able to present it at a Board of Alderman once we feel we are ready. \nIf there are many comments\, we will allocate an additional discussion meeting next month to review a second public draft.

SUMMARY:Complete Streets Analysis and policy for Nashua
DESCRIPTION:During this meeting we are planning on taking time to review Complete Streets policies from nearby cities in Nashua that have implemented their own Complete Streets Policies. \nOur goal for this meeting is by the end to have somewhere between a rough idea and a concrete plan for how Complete Streets should look for Nashua. This meeting will help us shape the actual Complete Streets Policy we want Nashua to have\, so make sure to be there if you are interested in shaping policy for the future of Nashua! \nWe will have material prepared for a few of the cities we are looking at (Manchester\, Concord NH\, Portsmouth NH)\, but if there are any additional cities you would like to review\, feel free to bring these along as well! We would love to have more cities in the discussion!

SUMMARY:Strategy/discussion meeting kickoff
DESCRIPTION:At this meeting we will be discussing the next major issues we will be working towards over the course of the next year. Each of these are intended to be reasonably sized issues\, while having outsized impact compared. Basically a minimum effort -> maximum output coefficient. \nThese issues are: \n\nUpdating the city paving code\nUpzoning for small businesses in residential areas surrounding downtown\nContinued: The fight against parking minimums\, and against minimums in general\n\nDuring this meeting we will be taking two courses of action: \n\nDiscussing the goal with specifics in mind\nStrategizing on how to move forward with each\n\nIf you can\, try to make it! These discussions will help push the future of the org\, and how we move forward with our plans. \nIf you can’t make it\, make sure to send an email on our email lists or to Darrien at nashuastrongtowns@darrienglasser.com with your input so we can discuss it during our meeting. \nNoting we will be back at MakeIt Labs on the 2nd floor for this meeting. We hope to see you all there!

SUMMARY:General meeting #7 - the long awaited parking minimums one
DESCRIPTION:This is the 7th general Nashua Strong Towns meeting. If you’re on the email lists – you saw this coming. In this meeting we will be discussing parking minimums. A topic that has garnered a lot of attention over the last few months when there was an initial discussion to reinstate parking minimums in downtown. \nThe city is set to re-evaluate parking in downtown next year either way – as removal of parking minimums in D1/MU zoned areas (the only areas like it in the city with no parking minimums) were meant to be temporary\, and will likely be re-added without push back and a proper discussion around how we can make it easier for residents to not own cars. \nGiven the new form based zoning ordinance is likely be released in a month or two for public comment\, and will probably continue to have parking minimums in it\, this will be a point of contention. \nIn this meeting we will discuss plans on how the town can best proceed to keep parking minimums out of downtown and depending on how much we discuss – removal of parking minimums in the rest of the city. \nIt is important we do this in a productive way though\, and this meeting is intended to give us time to brainstorm solutions to the parking problems the town is having\, without feeding into the cycle of car dependency. These are solutions we can later discuss with the town. \nEffectively – how can the town incentivize folks living downtown and in the surrounding areas to own fewer cars while not making their life more difficult? \nFor this meeting feel free to bring just yourself\, but if you would like to amp up the discussion we recommend bringing: \n\nExamples of cities that have started densifying like Nashua\, and successfully overcame with transportation needs while not needing parking minimums\nExamples of ways to make car-free and car-lite living in Nashua downtown (and elsewhere) easier with a limited town budget\n\nOur goal is to have a productive conversation and provide examples to the city of Nashua how to best proceed without implementing parking minimums. \nThis meeting will also be in the Nashua Public Library activity room. Food is allowed in this room so sweets will be provided to foster the best discussion!

SUMMARY:#4 Nashua Strong Towns general meeting - workshopping ward statements
DESCRIPTION:This is our fourth general meeting. As with the last\, this meeting will be slightly different than the others. \nWhile working on the Nashua Strong Towns Facebook page I was posed a question: \n \n> How can Strong Towns benefit ward 9? \nTurned into the more general question – how can each ward benefit from Strong Towns? \nThe answer is not always so obvious. The Strong Towns message can be complicated to properly convey\, and getting the messaging just right can be difficult. \nLikewise\, each ward is at a “different level” of walkability. Meaning where they are\, where they should be\, and how they could benefit are all slightly different answers. \nThis meeting we’ll have folks from each ward work together to make a ready-made statement for their ward and take a chance to learn from what each ward needs from each other. \nWe’ll post each on our website to make it easy to reference in the future. \nGiven the group-collaborative nature of this event\, it will be in-person only.

SUMMARY:#3 Nashua Strong Towns general meeting - featuring Matt Sullivan

This meeting will be a bit different than before in that we’ll be having our first guest speaker – Community Development Division Director Matt Sullivan. \nHe’ll be doing a short presentation on Nashua Transit System and other things he’s working on\, and leave some time for plenty of questions. \nAs usual\, we’ll also have time for a general discussion as well. \nThis will also be our first virtual/hybrid meeting. For folks who want to attend in person\, the meeting will take place in the usual location – the Nashua Maker Space. For folks who would like to attend virtually\, you can do so via Jitsi here. This will be our first virtual meeting\, so please be patient with us if we have any technical difficulties. \nWith Christmas coming up so soon\, we’ll have some home made fudge for folks who come in person (the same recipe as was at the Stroll). We hope to see you all there!
